Our History

Specialising in incentive and constumer loyalty programmes since 1986

We have always pursued the goal of creating benefits through connections. Since our beginning, the growth of our business and company was not only in line but also ahead with the latest trends. The history of our company reflects our successful journey of becoming the market leader for incentives and customer loyalty programmes in Europe.

As a team we progress! Years of experience in the areas of sales promotion, customer loyalty and employee benefits are our success formula for future-proof solutions. With a constantly growing team, we are open for and work in new business areas, design and deliver highly motivating and efficient solutions together with our customers - and thus continue to drive the expansion of the Connex Group.

Due to the growth of Connex in the last couple of years, our customer projects became increasingly relevant across Europe and worldwide.

By merging with Awardit, we can use valuable synergies to establish ourselves as the number one European player in the field of end-to-end voucher and incentive solutions as well as loyalty programs. The Stockholm-based, listed company operates in the segment of loyalty and gift card programs as the Scandinavian market leader with the aim to expand international.

CONNEX has been part of the Awardit Group since February 2023. Our corporate organization and the Connex management team remains unchanged.

After gaining several years of experience in various areas of the company, Christian Haslinger becomes the CEO the Connex Group in 2020.

In 2020 Connex established Connex Loyalty GmbH as a result of the ever increasing demand for providing and delivering state of the art “fully serviced” loyalty platform solutions.

As a "full-service provider" of loyalty programs, Connex Loyalty opens the entire world of customer loyalty to its business partners: from the development of a loyalty strategy (as a result of working together with the client), to the implementation and setup with in-house software, to the operation of the systems.

More than 50 well-known companies operating throughout Europe and worldwide rely on the expertise of Connex Loyalty and achieve extraordinary results with it.

After having successfully established a market leading position in the B2B sector, Connex started to enter the B2C/ B2B2C market in 2010 with the introduction of newly designed gift voucher products for the retail market (HotelBox). Dr. Georg Maier, who was instrumental in building the B2C market for Connex, joined the company in 2010.

Our partnership with Jochen Schweizer’s MyDay’s made it possible to gain a large market share in Germany, one of Europe’s most important B2C markets.

Our core products: Holiday and Travel Vouchers, are being complemented with sought after shopping and experience vouchers.

As a result, CONNEX thus offers the market-leading portfolio in this segment and can offer its customers all the solutions they need from a single source.

In addition to the Voucher products, Connex enters the loyalty programme market. This is due to the success of the well-established Voucher programmes with several companies who expressed their interest in more sophisticated loyalty programmes. As a result, CONNEX develops its own software-as-a-service solution "CORES" ("Connex Reward System").

Due to the strong growth of the company, it was time to relocate: In 2003, the company moved to its new premises at Dr.-Schauer-Strasse in Wels, which offered space for more than 100 employees.

In the same year, Connex introduces one of its most successful Voucher programmes: holiday plus – a product used for product enrichment and sales promotions. Holiday plus was, and still is, used by hundreds of renowned and well-established companies European and Worldwide.

The welcome plus voucher (Two for One) was another successful addition to Connex’s Voucher Programmes. Welcome Plus was very successfully used as a small budget incentive.

100’s of Hotels started partnering with Connex in these Voucher programmes.

When Connex started operating, it focused on the DACH regions. However, due to the high demand of its products and state of the art marketing, CONNEX started to expand into additional European countries.

In 2005 CEE was established, looking after the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

In 2006, CONNEX UK & Ireland Ltd. (a franchise) started expanding the business not only in the UK, but worldwide.

In 1999, Connex succeeded in becoming the exclusive supplier of today's Mercedes-Benz Group AG. This marks an important milestone in the company's history: the "Mercedes-Benz hotel cheque" has been used throughout the organization ever since.

This business partnership supported Connex to enter the German and Swiss market.

Due to the high emotional impact on the one hand - after all, who doesn't like to get a holiday for free - and the high quality on the other hand, this exclusive connection has endured to this day.

CONNEX’s initial concept, vacation as a gift, originates from a Resort conference in America. In 1986 the company was founded by two friends - Ernst Haslinger and Thomas Rusin. A couple of years later, Mag. Erwin Weberberger joined the founding team as a shareholder.

 

The founders set themselves the key objective of creating connections between both the hotel industry and commercial companies, this is how “CONNEX” was created.
